Tempo Tuesday as we now call it. For the past 2/3 months Stevie and I try and make our Hill Run (Dyer Observatory Summit) Out & Back our Tempo Run as well. To give you a little insight of what this run is like here is how I see it. (Mile 1) Rolling to Flat great to get the legs warmed up and then boom up up up up for (Mile 2 & 3) to the top of (Dyer Observ. Summit) 1135'. The Climb to up Dyer begins basically as soon as you turn on to Oman Dr. and after a gradual .25 of a mile you hit the 1st 15/18% grade followed up with an easier mid section of around 7/9% as you approach the half way point, you then start the last 1/2 mile of a winding 10/13% grade to the Observatory summit. You are now faced with a quad pounding on the 1 mile descent back Granny White Pk (Mile 4). (Mile 5) is a fast descent back down to Maryland Farms with (Mile 6) taking you back on the same rolling route back to Y parking lot. Now that you know what this route is all about here is how our run today went. Stevie took it out pretty fast with a 7.22 (1st mile) I then took over and ran a pretty solid 6.49 (2nd mile) to the Base of Oman Rd. & Dyer Observ. Summit. The (3rd mile) would be my slowest at 9.22 which isn't too bad considering the climb. After a fast 6.59 (4th mile) I held an even tempo back to Maryland Farms with a 7.02 (5th mile) after stating earlier that I would like to break 45 min's I gave it a go and rounded out the run with a solid 6.51 (6th mile). All in all I finished up at 44.12 and happy with how the legs felt. Stevie came in a few min's back but was equally as happy as he stated he "finally got the monkey off his back" after what was a PR for him on this route. It was a great workout and I'm already looking forward to next tuesday.
keep moving forward
